HVAC Maintenance FAQs
Your HVAC system will function as efficiently as possible if it is maintained. It will be more effective, which over time may lower your energy costs. Preventive maintenance also ensures that the air quality in your home is good, which is especially beneficial for persons who have allergies or respiratory problems. Regular maintenance can reduce dust and dander buildup in your HVAC system, allowing it to filter out other dangerous air particles.
Regular maintenance for HVAC systems is typically recommended annually. This frequency ensures optimal performance, energy efficiency, and longevity of the system. However, in some cases, biannual maintenance may be necessary, especially for systems that provide both heating and cooling throughout the year. Factors such as system age, usage, and manufacturer recommendations can also influence the maintenance schedule. Consulting with a qualified HVAC technician can help determine the appropriate maintenance frequency based on your specific system and usage patterns.
The Patriot Can Assist With Any Of The Following
Call Patriot Air if you're looking to get maintenance on any of this equipment:
- Air Conditioner Maintenance
When it comes to air conditioners, we conduct an annual service tune-up and cleaning. This is usually performed in the spring.
Our professional technician will check and clean the connections, coils, blower components, lines, refrigerant, drain, fuses, and thermostat(s) and lubricate all working parts.
Between maintenance service calls, we recommend you remove any yard debris or vegetation from the top and the sides of your outdoor AC unit, as well as cover it with an AC cover or tarp during winter.
- Furnace and Boiler Maintenance
Like with all HVAC equipment, furnace and boiler maintenance is conducted once a year. Our technician will check and clean (depending on whether you have a furnace or boiler) all the connections, controls, sensors, drains, ignitor, ducts, pipes, burners, valves, motors, thermostat(s), and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, and instruct you on anything you could do between our service visits.
- Heat Pump Maintenance
Many people think that heat pumps require a lot of maintenance. This can’t be further from the truth. Heat pumps need an annual service tune-up and cleaning.
During a heat pump maintenance call, our professional technician will check and clean ducts, filters, blower, indoor coil, ducts, refrigerant, electric terminals, connections, motors, and belts, as well as lubricate all working parts.
Between maintenance calls, we recommend you clean the filter every three months and clean the outdoor coils whenever they seem dirty. You should also keep yard debris or vegetation away from the unit to ensure they don’t get into the system.
- Water Heater Maintenance
Water heater maintenance is also conducted once a year. One of our experienced technicians will come over and check the water pressure valve and the anode rod for any degradation. They’ll also flush the tank, adjust the temperature, and even insulate the pipes and the tank in between maintenance calls when needed.
- Whole-House Humidifier Maintenance
Whole-house humidifier maintenance is usually performed at the same time as furnace tune-up and cleaning. Typically there isn’t much in the way of maintenance; however, our technician will change your humidifier pad and clean any mineral buildup you may have (in the case of hard water).
We’ll also show you how to dissolve the buildup on your own so you can keep your humidifier working at peak efficiency at all times.
- Air-Filtration System Maintenance
MaintenanceAir-filtration system maintenance is pretty straightforward and usually means changing or cleaning the filter every three months; hanging or cleaning your filter regularly will ensure the best filtration for your home and extend the life of the system. If you need any assistance or would like to install an air-filtration system, feel free to talk with one of our professionals at Patriot Air.
